DOWNERS GROVE, Illinois – After years of being known simply as the Craft Fair, last year the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club renamed their signature event. The refreshed name represented Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club continued commitment to bring the newest artisans and undiscovered handmade goods to Downers Grove residents. In addition, the 2016 rebranding included the addition of a community service element.
“The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club Craft Fair has been a great local tradition for the last fifteen years,” says Anne Healy, DGJWC Club President. “We are excited about the new line up of artisans at the DG Handmade Market and we are pleased to feature a service project for our community.”
The 2017 craft show will be held at O’Neill Middle School
635 59th Street, Downers Grove, Illinois
DATE & TIME:
Hours of the craft show are Saturday, April 29th from 9am to 3pm.
This year, based on feedback from shoppers and crafters, the event will be held indoors at O’Neill Middle School, which allows crafters some reprise from the historically unpredictable summer heat and rain.
The DG Handmade Market offers a mix of handmade products, a community service project, and several local not-for-profit booths. Historically roughly 50 artisans have showcased their work in the handmade marketplace, from clothing and accessories to home decor, apothecary, and specialty items. New artisan specialties in 2016 included items such as twisted jump ropes made on-site and brewery-inspired products. “The 2016 event had a fantastic group of artists, and the addition of the service element and non profits really rounded out the event for many attendees,” said DGJWC member Laura Hill, “I’m really looking forward to building on the success of the 2016 event, and making it an annual tradition for visitors who like to shop local and find one-of-a-kind items.”
“We hope the community service craft gives residents even more reason to explore the DG Handmade Market” says Anne Healy, DGJWC Club President.
Visitors are invited to stop by the booths of several local not-for-profit organizations. “We see this event as one part arts and crafts, one part community service, and one part fun and fellowship,” says Anne Healy. “We encourage everyone to come enjoy a great day of shopping and socializing.”
